Experience the wonders of Egypt alongside the astronomical event of the decade on this 9-day journey through Cairo, the Nile Valley and Nubia. On 2 August 2027, one of the longest total solar eclipses of the century sweeps across southern Egypt, with the path of totality passing directly over Luxor and offering up to roughly six minutes of daytime darkness — a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle above the land of the pharaohs. Witness it from a prime viewing spot arranged by Elevana Tours, then continue to the Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum, a luxury Nile cruise and the majestic temples of Abu Simbel.

Day 1: Arrival in Cairo

Touch down at Cairo International Airport, where your personal Elevana Tours representative is waiting just beyond arrivals to welcome you to Egypt. After a smooth meet-and-assist through passport and luggage formalities, you are transferred in a private air-conditioned vehicle to your centrally located hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to unwind, enjoy a first taste of Egyptian hospitality, or take an optional evening stroll along the Nile. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 2: Pyramids of Giza & Grand Egyptian Museum

After breakfast, your private Egyptologist guide leads you onto the Giza Plateau to stand before the last surviving wonder of the ancient world — the Great Pyramid of Khufu, flanked by the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure. You will also visit the enigmatic Great Sphinx and the granite Valley Temple, with time for that unforgettable panoramic photo of all three pyramids together. In the afternoon you explore the brand-new Grand Egyptian Museum, home to the complete treasures of Tutankhamun and thousands of artefacts displayed in state-of-the-art galleries. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 3: Fly to Luxor – East Bank Temples

Transfer to the airport for a short domestic flight to Luxor, the open-air museum built over ancient Thebes. On the East Bank you tour the immense Karnak complex, a forest of towering columns and sacred lakes raised over two thousand years, followed by the elegant Luxor Temple. You then embark your deluxe Nile cruiser, your floating hotel for the next stage of the journey, and settle into your cabin as the boat prepares to sail. Overnight on board in Luxor.

Day 4: Eclipse Day in Luxor

This is the day you came for. In the morning you cross to the West Bank to explore the Valley of the Kings, where pharaohs including Tutankhamun were laid to rest in richly painted tombs, and the striking terraced Temple of Hatshepsut. In the early afternoon your guide brings you to a carefully chosen open viewing site as the sky begins to darken and the Moon slides across the Sun. With certified solar-safe glasses provided, you witness up to roughly six minutes of total solar eclipse over Luxor — a rare daytime darkness above the land of the pharaohs. Overnight on board.

Day 5: Edfu & Kom Ombo

As your cruiser sails gently south along the Nile, you watch timeless riverbank scenes of palm groves, farmers and fishing boats drift past the deck. You disembark to visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu, the best-preserved temple in all Egypt, its walls still crowned with a towering pylon and covered in vivid reliefs. Further upstream you explore the unusual double Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the falcon god Haroeris and the crocodile god Sobek, perched dramatically on a bend in the river. Overnight on board.

Day 6: Aswan – Philae Temple & High Dam

Aswan is Egypt’s gentlest and most scenic city, where the Nile weaves between granite islands and golden dunes. You visit the graceful Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis and rescued from the rising waters by a UNESCO engineering rescue, reached by a short motorboat ride. You also see the mighty Aswan High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk, which reveals exactly how the ancient Egyptians carved their colossal monuments from the bedrock. Overnight on board in Aswan.

Day 7: Abu Simbel

An early excursion brings you to the colossal rock-cut temples of Abu Simbel, built by Ramesses II to project his power at the very edge of ancient Egypt. Four seated statues of the pharaoh, each over twenty metres tall, guard the facade of the Great Temple, while the smaller temple honours his beloved queen Nefertari. Your guide explains how the entire monument was cut into blocks and lifted to higher ground to save it from Lake Nasser — one of history’s greatest feats of heritage rescue. Return to Aswan for your overnight on board.

Day 8: Fly Back to Cairo

After a final leisurely breakfast on the Nile, you disembark and transfer to Aswan airport for your flight back to Cairo. On arrival you are met and transferred to your hotel, with the afternoon free for last-minute souvenir shopping in the Khan el-Khalili bazaar or simply relaxing. Your guide can arrange an optional dinner cruise or sound-and-light show on request. Overnight in Cairo.

Day 9: Departure

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before checking out of your hotel. At the appointed time your Elevana Tours representative transfers you to Cairo International Airport in good time for your onward flight. You leave Egypt having witnessed both the eternal monuments of the pharaohs and a once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse — memories to last a lifetime.
