On 2 August 2027, one of the longest total solar eclipses of the century sweeps across southern Egypt, with the path of totality passing directly over Luxor and offering up to roughly six minutes of daytime darkness — a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle above the land of the pharaohs. This 7-day tour combines the Pyramids of Giza with a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan and front-row eclipse viewing in the Nile Valley.
On arrival at Cairo International Airport you are welcomed by your Elevana Tours representative and assisted through immigration and baggage claim. A private transfer takes you to your hotel, where you can relax and prepare for the adventure ahead. The evening is free, with the option of a first Nile-side dinner arranged on request. This morning your Egyptologist guide leads you across the Giza Plateau to marvel at the Great Pyramids and the watchful Sphinx, the enduring symbols of ancient Egypt. After time for photographs and exploration, you transfer to the airport for a short flight to Luxor. On arrival you embark your deluxe Nile cruiser, your comfortable home for the eclipse and the days on the river. Overnight on board in Luxor.
You begin with the treasures of ancient Thebes, touring the temples of Karnak and Luxor on the East Bank and the royal tombs of the West Bank. In the afternoon your guide escorts you to a specially selected open viewing site with an unobstructed view of the sky. Equipped with certified solar-safe glasses, you witness the total solar eclipse over Luxor, up to roughly six minutes of rare daytime darkness above the temples of the pharaohs. Overnight on board.
Sailing south, you relax on deck and watch the timeless Nile landscape of palm groves and farming villages slip by. You go ashore to visit the superbly preserved Temple of Horus at Edfu, then the graceful riverside Temple of Kom Ombo dedicated to two gods. Both temples reward you with vivid carvings and dramatic settings right on the water’s edge. Overnight on board.
Your morning is spent exploring Aswan, the Nile’s most beautiful city. You visit the island Temple of Philae, sacred to Isis and rescued from the floodwaters, the towering Aswan High Dam, and the Unfinished Obelisk that reveals the ancient art of stone carving. The afternoon is free to relax on board or take an optional felucca sail among the islands. Overnight on board in Aswan.
After a leisurely breakfast you disembark and transfer to Aswan airport for your flight back to Cairo. You are met and transferred to your hotel, with the rest of the day free to relax or browse the colourful stalls of Khan el-Khalili. Overnight in Cairo.
